This is a 4 day art experience, gently led by Beverly Wainwright. We will walk locally and sketch along the way returning to the studio to develop our sketches further. It is an opportunity for you to relax, connect with the local landscape and enjoy the freedom to work in a studio. The group will be small and the week informal. Suitable for beginners and artists with some experience.
You will need to bring waterproofs , boots or sturdy shoes and your own sketching materials. Tables, easels, paper and basic materials will be provided in the studio, but feel free to bring whatever materials you prefer to work with. You will need transport to get to the start of some of the walks.
INCLUDED: Tea/coffee plus a light vegetarian/vegan lunch. Studio materials - paper, drawing materials plus acrylic paints. You are welcome to bring any of your own materials.
NOT INCLUDED: Sketchbooks and sketching materials. Transport, accommodation, evening meals.
TIMING: 9.30-4 each day. Most mornings we will be outdoors and in the studio in the afternoons with the last day studio based.
DAY 1 - Walk from the hut to the waterfall nearby and into the woods beyond. Return for lunch and studio work
DAY 2 - Cultybraggan Camp. This is a former prisoner of war camp with interesting buildings, allotments and a community orchard. We will explore the site and return to the studio at lunchtime
DAY 3 - Loch Earn walk along the shores of loch earn. we will eat Lunch in a local cafe.
DAY 4 - studio based working from our sketches.
Beverly has studied at Leith School of Art and Bridgehouse School of Art in Ullapool including the 4 month portfolio course. She runs COMRIE ART HUT

You will be introduced to the basic techniques of making books, starting with one sheet of paper. You will discover new ways of folding paper, create pop-ups, explore and develop narrative and learn how to manage glue!
Be prepared to change your idea of what a book is, be surprised how meditative folding paper can be and have fun creating unique books of your own.
DAY 1-creating coloured papers which we will fold into a set of simple books
DAY 2-folding and sewing a variety of more complex book structures and making covers
DAY 3-preparing to create your own book – using different book forms to explore your ideas
DAY 4-folding, sewing, cutting, sticking, popping up, writing, typing, collaging, stamping… start creating your own book!
DAY 5-continue to work on your own book
This course is studio based and suitable for beginners or those with experience of artist bookmaking. All materials are included but feel free to bring any ephemera, memorabilia (such as photos) and any text or poetry that you might want to include in the making of your book. On days that the on-site cafe is closed a light vegetarian/vegan lunch will be provided.
NOT INCLUDED: Accommodation, evening meals, transport, lunches when the cafe is open.

Jan Breckenridge has a background in science and conservation. She teaches Artist Bookmaking on a variety of courses around Scotland and is a meticulous and expert maker of artist books. You will learn many techniques from Jan and will work to produce your very own Artist book by the end of the week.

Structured along a workshop format, this course is highly experiential and will push a few boundaries and ideas of how to draw and what makes a drawing work. Using a wide range of materials and techniques, we will investigate ways of observing and recording, tune into our deeper perceptions and simply enjoy making marks on paper and other surfaces. Bring an open mind and a willingness to play. Suitable for beginners and artists with some experience.
DAY 1-Scale : From the Micro to the Macro - indoors and out.
DAY 2- Yellow : Hands-on sculptural drawings - indoors.
DAY 3-Touchy Feely : Expressive texture and mark making - indoors and out.
DAY 4-Chalk and Roll : Line on the Move indoors.
Day 5-Collaboration - drawing it all together.
NOTE: This week does not involve much walking, outdoors sessions will involve collecting objects near the Art Hut .
All materials included. There is an onsite cafe which offers wonderful, locally sourced food. On days that the cafe is closed, simple vegetarian/vegan lunches Will be provided.
