Morag Gray, a textile artist and designer who lives and works in the Sidlaws will be leading this fun and creative workshop. You will learn how to create your own designer fabric, using natural plant materials to print onto up-cycled cotton fabric which will be made into a unique lampshade for you to take home. This workshop is suitable for all abilities and will be a relaxed and sociable experience. Bring a friend and have fun together. All materials provided and included in the price.
Join Katy Galbraith of Recycle Me Mosaics in a two-day course learning the basics of making a mosaic picture or mirror in discarded ceramics.
This workshop is ideal for beginners, improvers and curious crafters and offers a fun-filled weekend with step-by-step guidance in a small group.
Birds, fish, flowers are all possibilities, and can be colourful or monochrome, depending on your own style and the materials available
A selection of ceramics, tiles, nuggets, and glass will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own discarded ceramics for your project, giving it a more personal feel, more akin to a traditional patchwork quilt idea, where only you will know the provenance of the pieces. Tools and other materials are also provided. We will be working on wooden boards, so not suitable for outdoors.
Katy Galbraith has been working as a professional mosaic artist for ovr 15 years, and is a professional member of BAMM (British Association of Modern Mosaic). The reuse of materials is a core part of her own work. She exhibits extensive, and has two pieces in the National Museum of Scotland.
This day-long course is an introduction to monochrome portraiture using pencil and conté crayons. Suitable for beginners through to more experienced students, Charity McArdle will tailor tuition to each individual student and their level of previous experience.We will develop tools and knowledge for looking, measuring and recording the human head.
In the morning we will touch on
The afternoon will be spent working on a longer drawing from a photocopy, screen image or, depending on the confidence of the group, from a live model. Students will be supported in using proportion, rhythms and measuring techniques to create an accurate portrait and to be able to build skills and confidence. A day fully focused and in the zone.
Sharing our learning over a cup of beautifully crafted tea will be encouraged .

Charity McArdle has been teaching for thirty years and has been a practicing artist alongside her teaching since 2016. Her practice is mainly in landscapes and portraiture and she has sold work in the UK, Europe and Australia. She has exhibited widely in Scotland.
